Tragedy & Irony...
When the earth shall quake with its quaking
And the earth shall bring forth her burdens,
and man shall say, ‘What ails her’
On that day she shall tell her tidings, because thy Lord inspires her.
On the day when men shall come up in separate bands to show their works
and he who does the weight of a dust particle of good shall see it
and he who does the weight of a dust particle of evil shall see it
(The Koran; Sura 99- The Earthquake)
I really can't erase those pictures from my mind...the human tragedy in Haiti is beyond anyone's imagination.
Been ardently watching the news, and more pictures are coming forth, hundreds of corpses litter the streets, survivors can still hear groans from under the rubble, families lost, people wandering in the streets not knowing where to go, survivors camping on damp grounds, for the 3rd night running...
From what I gathered, no aid has arrived. One family of 5 who lost everything, received just a small bottle of water and a piece of bread. Seems also that UN convoys are just driving by and nothing is being done despite the propaganda to the contrary...they blame it on logistics, and lack of coordination between various States and relief organizations...for me it's just politicking
There are no hospitals to treat the wounded, hundreds are still lying in their pool of blood and fractures, no pain killers, no nothing. One dispensary on the outskirts of Port au Prince received over 1000 wounded in less than 24 hours. And this is only a dispensary, with no medical equipment...
The Haitians are getting very angry, Reports of looting and gunfights over food, and in some areas of the city, the survivors made barracks out of dead bodies as a sign of protest for the lack of any forthcoming aid...
How will they survive ? no homes, no food, no water, no hospitals, no jobs, not even latrines for their basic human needs, all of that crowned with "shock and awe" and grief for the lost ones...It is a true catastrophe.
Who is to blame for that ? God, nature, global warming or politics ?
One thing for sure the Haitians that the American psycho Pat Robertson deplored as being "cursed for making a pact with the devil " ever since they kicked out the racist French colonialist, are heard chanting in theopen public spaces they are now occupying, chanting and praying "Thank you Jesus for another day alive" . Maybe the Haitians and that fucked up American psycho Pat Robertson are not praying for the same Jesus after all...
So who is to blame ? The Haitians are not blaming God, and they have no power over nature or the accumulated effects of big corporations run by blood sucking power centers of the West and their contribution to ecological disasters, but they did have some power over their local politics...which America, that vampire America, meddled in time and time again...and for that I urge you to read the very well written article by Chris Floyd here. Plus, you may also check other articles on Haiti on Uruknet, which give some of the background information as to why this natural disaster is not only the work of "God" or nature but the work of man.
With a population living on less than 2$ a day, how can anyone expect buildings to hold when disaster strikes? And this impoverished population was indeed cursed by the devil and that devil's name is America. Had America not meddled, the chances are that the extent of the catastrophe would not be as monumental...
And amidst all of that devastation, Hilary Clinton, who had to cut short her trip to Australia, main concern was
"It is biblical, the tragedy that continues to stalk Haiti and the Haitian people," she said, adding that the outlook for Haiti had been slowly stabilising before the quake.
"We had private business beginning to make investments ... There was so much hope about Haiti's future. Hope that had not been present for years. And along comes Mother Nature and just flattens them." (source)
And if it only stopped there, Obama, your favorite president has appointed George W.Bush as a U.S "relief envoy" to Haiti.
I want to cry - I honestly do.
More irony -- the 45'000 Americans trapped in Haiti are being evacuated to Guantanamo Bay Naval base...
I am wondering will they get a chance to say hello to the innocent tortured detainees there ? Will they get to visit the cells, the animals cages where hundreds of men with no trial were kept for years, cursed by the devil...will they hear their groans and moans from behind walls just like the people of Haiti are doing right now?
And ironically, the Haiti tragedy reminded me so much of Baghdad's. Where bodies were littering the streets in hundreds, and the stench unbearable, just like in Port au Prince and they were left there in the streets for weeks...with stray dogs feeding on them...
No one filmed that, no one micro blogged about it and no convoys were sent...it was all done in silence...covered and quickly stashed away in morgues and mass graves...and people are still living in tents...and their homes are still in ruins and in rubble...Baghdad must have been cursed by the devil too...
The "relief envoy" then in Iraq and today in Haiti is one and the same...
